Collaborations don’t get much bigger than this: reportedly, The Rolling Stones have hooked up with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
Variety reports that multiple sources have said that the two ex-Beatles have made contributions to a forthcoming Stones album, which is reportedly being produced by Andrew Watt. Last year, McCartney said in a chinwag that he’d “been recording with a couple of poeple”, including Watt. “He’s very interesting,” Macca said. “We’ve had some fun.”
We don’t know yet whether McCartney’s efforts will actually appear on the finished product, or if he’ll be on the same tune as Ringo. McCartney was apparently in Los Angeles recently, laying down some bass tracks, and the album is currently being mixed. According to Keith Richards, we’ll also be hearing the late Charlie Watts‘ work on this one.
The Rolling Stones and The Beatles had a decades-long rivalry, although it was never really clear whether it was friendly or otherwise. In any case, if there was actual animosity, this might be evidence that hatchets have been buried. Not in each other, that is.
