For the first time in sixteen years, Robert Plant dusted off Stairway To Heaven and sang the hell out of it during a Cancer Trust benefit concert in the UK.
Plant’s performance was part of An Evening With Andy Taylor And Special Guests, organized by the former Duran Duran axeman – who was himself diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer five years ago. The Led Zeppelin frontguy proved that he still has it, nailing all the lyrics to the legendary tune. He may not have hit all the power-packed high notes which he did fifty-two years ago, but he did it justice.
Former Reef and current Goldray guitarist Kenwyn House – who played alongside Plant at the gig – says that we can thank someone who made a six-figure donation for the Stairway performance. “Someone bid a huge amount of money for him to sing this song,” he says. “There is a good circle of karma around it. That raised a six-figure sum for the charity, that one song.”
