Eddie Vedder – a big Neil Young fan? Yep. Pearl Jam and Neil did an entire album together, and one of the covers you’ll hear them doing from time to time is Rockin’ In The Free World. Eddie inducted Neil into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, and Neil returned the solid when it was Pearl Jam’s turn. And they’ve done gigs at each other’s festivals.
The kinship continues: the new Neil Young tribute album Heart Of Gold: The Songs Of Neil Young will drop in a month or so – it’s a charity effort for the Bridge School, the California school for kids with severe speech and physical impairments which Neil supports every year with a benefit concert; the album features Fiona Apple, Sharon Van Etten, Brandi Carlile, Courtney Barnett and others covering Neil Young tunes, and Eddie Vedder’s contribution is a cover of The Needle And The Damange Done.
